Not as strong as the 2nd
disc, but still a few gems on there...
Jackie DeShannon - Should I Cry. She collaborated with about
a million folks in the music industry, and was
one of the few female performers
of the era that not only wrote much of her material but helped write
for others to perform as well.
She had a number of songs that were more famous than this one,
but this track
is definitely a gem. The Four J's - Will You Be My Love. This was the first of
only two singles issued by this LA-based girl group
with doo-wop leanings.
Given how great this is, I find that rather surprising. The Ikettes - I'm Blue (The Gong-Gong Song). Best known
nowadays as the backing group for Ike & Tina, but
this ever-changing line-up
actually had a number of hits of their own back then. You'll get
the repeating gong
refrain from this track stuck in
your head almost instantly, I promise. Twiggy - When I Think Of You. See, it wasn't just the
movie stars and
models of today trying to make music...
even back in the sixties
supermodel Twiggy gave soul singing a go...and it's actually not a bad
song. Wanda Jackson - Funnel Of Love. Aww man, that voice is too
rad. The bio reads that it was Elvis who insisted
Wanda try rock-n-roll after a
steady diet of country. After making her name in the rockabilly
circuit, she cut a few
soul-ish tracks in the early
